Sheffield House is a 4-storey plus basement heritage building in the Hay Street Mall of the central Perth CBD.
The project was a prime example of adaptive reuse of a heritage structure to create a low energy, high performance workplace
BCA Consultants was commissioned for the electrical, lighting design, mechanical, fire, vertical transport and fire safety engineering services to the upper 3-level refurbishment into quality A-Grade office spaces. The scope of works included the infrastructure design for the future services upgrade to the ground floor and basement spaces that were occupied by major tenants at the time.
In addition to the base three floors, CCN Architects undertook a full floor fit-out for their office premises. The fit-out included two boardrooms, a technical library, a print room, and staff facilities. Clean lines, exposed services and a neutral palette highlight the physical characteristics of the existing building.
Extensive benchmarking and research established the most effective and reliable strategies to offset carbon emissions and maintain a commitment to reducing the business’ environmental footprint. Sustainability initiatives include:
- Mixed mode air conditioning
- Water efficient sanitary fixtures
- Daylight harvesting
- Minimising distances between work stations and natural light
Sheffield House office achieved certified operational carbon neutral status and was one of four certified GreenStar office interiors in Western Australia at the time of completion. The project won the prestigious Australian Institute of Architects (WA) Award for Sustainable Architecture in 2010.
