Karijini National Park Visitors Centre

PILBARA, WA

The Karijini National Park Visitors’ Centre is a world-class visitors’ centre in the remote Pilbara Region of Western Australia.

The design is an ambiguous form that is absorbed by the landscape

The centre aims to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the cultural and natural values unique to the area, highlighting the ongoing commitment to its local conservation.

Due to the remote location of this development, the building services designs were, by necessity, supremely energy efficient and self-sustaining in an extremely harsh environment. This brief provided unique challenges to the mechanical, electrical and lighting designs researched and developed by our engineers.

The Karijini National Park Visitors’ Centre was the winner of the Property Council of Australia (2001) Rider Hunt Award, and the World Architecture Award – Readers Choice.
