Cockburn Gateway Shopping City

Stages 2 & 3, Success, WA

Stage 2 of the Cockburn Gateways Shopping City was a major expansion encompassing an additional 20,000m2 in area, including a new discount department store, Woolworths supermarket, food court, two mini-major stores, 55 new specialty stores and on-grade car parking.

The design has created a dynamic retail environment enhanced by quality interior elements to deliver a memorable shopping experience

The works involved an integrated fit-out design for the major stores (Big W and Woolworths), mini-major stores, (Best & Less and JB HiFi) and the specialty stores.

The Stage 2 expansion was completed in two phases over a two year period, with Woolworths and 30% of the specialty shops opening during the first phase, and then Big W, the food court, mini-majors, and the remainder of the specialty stores in the later phase.

The subsequent Stage 3 major expansion was completed in October 2014 and encompassed an additional 50,000m2 in area including a Target Department Store, Town Plaza Piazza, 41 specialty shops with roof deck and basement carparking areas.

The two storey northern entry and piazza is a focal point for the centre that includes a restaurant precinct and leisure areas that activates the new main street.

BCA Consultants’ scope of services included the mechanical, electrical, lighting design, fire safety engineering and fire protection services. BCA designed the services installations to ensure the centre continued daily shopping trade during construction.

Cockburn Gateways Shopping City was the winner of the 2009 Property Council of Australia (WA Division) Award for Shopping Centres.
